Pokemon Go is a free smartphone app that combines gaming with the real world. The game uses location tracking and mapping technology to create an ‘augmented reality’ where players catch and train Pokemon characters in real locations.
The app has quickly become one of the most popular mobile games in history, with an estimated 45 million active users as of early August.
The app is available on Android and iOS devices and can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
Users must be 13 or over to sign-up for the game. Pokemon Go is not currently available in China, due to government restrictions on augmented reality games.
Niantic Labs is actually a spin-off company from Google and part of Alphabet, which itself is the new holding company previously known as Google.
The Pokemon Company has also co-operated with Nintendo and developer Niantic in order to make Pokemon Go possible.
The basic gameplay of Pokemon Go is very simple. Players create an avatar, which they can customize to look like themselves.
They then select a starter Pokemon, which can be a Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle. The player is then asked to choose a team – Team Mystic, Team Instinct, or Team Valor.
Once the game has been set up, players are encouraged to explore their surroundings and catch as many Pokemon as possible.
Pokemon can be found in various locations around the world, and different types of Pokemon are native to different areas. For example, water-type Pokemon can only be found near bodies of water.
To catch a Pokemon, players must first take aim using their phone’s camera. Once they have located a nearby Pokemon, they tap on it in the map view and throw a Poke Ball by flicking it from the bottom of the screen. If they are successful, the Pokemon is added to their collection.
Trainers can also battle other players at ‘gyms’, which are located in real-world locations such as public parks and squares.
Gyms are controlled by one of the three teams, and trainers can join or battle for control of a gym.
The game has received mixed reviews since its release. Some users have complained about server problems and bugs, while others have praised the app for its unique concept and addictive gameplay.
Overall, Pokemon Go has been a huge success and is likely to remain popular for some time to come.
So far I’ve really enjoyed playing Pokemon Go! It’s a lot of fun to explore my neighborhood and find new Pokemon.
I’m a member of Team Mystic, and so far I’ve managed to take control of two gyms. The only downside is that the game can be quite buggy at times, and it’s often difficult to log in.
I hope the developers will address these issues in future updates. Overall, I think Pokemon Go is a great game and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who’s interested in augmented reality or gaming. Thanks for reading! 🙂
